King Rama IX 9th Series — Thailand #1876 (1999)

Thailand #1876 (1999)
Thailand #1876 (1999)

The 10th Series of definitive stamps portraying His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) were issued between 1996 and 2011. My 2004-edition International House of Stamps Thai catalogue lists 34 different stamps up to a 1-baht stamp released on March 14, 2003, while the Scott catalogue 31 different stamps including two surcharges on this design. The “extras” in the Thai catalogue are second, third, and fourth printings of the original stamps and seem to be in the same color shades. Only two different watermarks were used on this set (a number weren’t watermarked at all): watermark 329 features zigzag lines while watermark 340 has alternating interlaced wavy lines. The 500-baht denomination (Scott #1879) released in 1999 is slightly larger than all of the remaining stamps in the 10th Series at 25×30 millimeters.
